Starting September 15, Thailand will implement a significant shift in its tourism policy by halving the visa-free stay duration for visitors from over 60 countries and territories to 30 days. While the nation currently allows travelers from more than 90 regions—including the United States, China, and much of Europe—to visit for up to 60 days, this new adjustment aims to tighten border regulations. However, not all nations are being restricted; travelers from select countries like South Korea, Peru, and Brazil will actually see their visa-free allowance extended to 90 days.

Government officials have framed this move as a necessary step to address concerns regarding criminal activity involving foreign nationals. Recent reports have highlighted a rise in arrests related to drug trafficking and illegal business operations, prompting authorities to reconsider the current visa framework. Despite these changes, tourists may still have the option to apply for a one-time extension at the discretion of immigration officers. As Thailand continues to navigate its post-pandemic tourism recovery, officials hope these stricter oversight measures will help maintain order while still keeping the country an attractive destination for international visitors.
