Tragedy Strikes in China as Mudslide Leaves One Dead and Eleven Missing
A devastating mudslide in China’s Jiangxi province has claimed at least one life, with rescue efforts currently underway for 11 people who remain missing. The disaster struck early Saturday morning in Gaoping Town, located within Suichuan County, after intense rainfall associated with Typhoon Saudel triggered the landslide. According to local officials, the force of the mud and debris was severe enough to damage 12 residential homes, leaving several families displaced and others unaccounted for.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that more than a dozen individuals were trapped in the immediate aftermath of the slide. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the area promptly to navigate the hazardous terrain and conduct search-and-rescue operations. As officials work to secure the site and locate the missing, the local government continues to monitor the situation closely, acknowledging the significant impact the severe weather has had on the community.
