Qatar Airways Cancels Jakarta Flights Due to Volcanic Ash

Mon, Sep 7, 2026(3h ago)World

Qatar Airways has officially canceled four of its flights connecting Doha and Jakarta, specifically routes QR954, QR955, QR956, and QR957. The disruption was prompted by the recent eruption of Mount Anak Krakatoa, which sent volcanic ash drifting toward Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and emphasized that the safety of travelers and crew is their primary concern, urging passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.

This event is part of a larger aviation crisis in Indonesia, where authorities have temporarily suspended operations at several airports to mitigate the risks posed by volcanic debris, which can severely damage jet engines and compromise visibility. The eruption, which was significant enough to be heard hundreds of kilometers away, has impacted over 22,000 travelers and disrupted more than 200 flights across the region, including services operated by other major carriers like Emirates. With Anak Krakatoa situated in a volatile strait between Java and Sumatra, the situation remains fluid as aviation officials monitor conditions to ensure safe skies.
