During her visit to the affected mountain regions, she described the sheer speed of the tragedy, noting that families lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones in a matter of just two minutes. With entire communities now isolated due to obliterated roads and infrastructure, the UN is currently partnering with local authorities to deliver emergency aid to the thousands of people who remain stranded in the wake of the disaster.

Beyond the immediate crisis of shelter and food, Yahia highlighted the growing concern regarding public health, specifically the rising risk of waterborne illnesses like cholera due to poor sanitation and the loss of thousands of livestock. The UN has launched a $50 million appeal to support over 84,000 survivors, emphasizing that the mountainous terrain makes logistics exceptionally difficult during the ongoing monsoon season. As Nepal struggles with limited resources, Yahia urged the global community to act immediately, stressing that the country cannot be left to face this overwhelming catastrophe on its own.
