Search for Survivors Underway After Building Collapse in Angeles City
Rescue operations are currently underway in Angeles City, located north of Manila, after a nine-story building under construction suffered a catastrophic collapse early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., left a massive pile of twisted steel and concrete debris that also caused significant damage to a neighboring hotel. While officials have successfully pulled 26 individuals from the rubble, they remain deeply concerned for 19 other workers who were typically stationed at the site and remain unaccounted for.
Eyewitnesses described the sudden, deafening sound of the structure giving way, initially leading some to believe a seismic event had occurred. Local authorities noted that the rescue process is proving difficult due to the sheer size of the concrete slabs and debris obstructing the area, necessitating heavy machinery to clear the site safely. Although the 26 survivors are reportedly in stable condition, investigators have yet to determine what caused the scaffolding and walls of the massive structure to fail so abruptly.
