Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to travel to the United States from September 29 to October 5 for a series of high-level meetings aimed at finalizing an interim trade agreement. During his visit, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, building on the framework established by the February 2026 Joint Statement. In addition to these private negotiations, he is expected to participate in the upcoming G20 trade ministers’ summit held in Wisconsin.

The upcoming visit marks a crucial step in the long-standing efforts between New Delhi and Washington to forge a mutually beneficial trade pact. Despite months of ongoing dialogue, the two nations have yet to reach a definitive consensus, with India reportedly pushing for more favorable terms. Furthermore, the discussions come at a sensitive time, as India has recently cautioned that new US tariff measures regarding Russian oil imports could potentially strain the current bilateral relationship.
