Starting October 1, 2026, Oman is significantly expanding its zero-VAT list, removing the tax burden from 1,546 additional products. This initiative covers 807 food items, 677 medical supplies, and 62 veterinary products, reinforcing the government’s ongoing commitment to easing the cost of living for its citizens. Omani tax authorities emphasized that this strategic update is designed to refine the national tax framework, ensuring it remains responsive to the evolving needs of the public while maintaining efficiency and social support.

The expanded list features a wide array of necessities, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, grains, and staple food products, alongside essential animal feed. On the medical front, the exemption now covers a broad spectrum of pharmaceutical goods, such as specialized nutritional products, surgical equipment, vitamins, and critical medications. Furthermore, the inclusion of various veterinary medicines and care supplies aims to support the agricultural and livestock sectors. This policy, which builds upon the initial zero-VAT framework introduced in 2021, reflects Oman's proactive approach to enhancing affordability and public welfare through targeted tax relief.
