Kuwait Unveils New Digital System to Track Private Sector Payroll
The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) has officially introduced the Kuwait Wage Payment System (KWPS), a major initiative designed to modernize the nation's payroll infrastructure. By centralizing the monitoring of salary transfers for the nearly 1.84 million employees currently working in the private sector, the CBK aims to ensure greater transparency and compliance. While the Central Bank will oversee the technical and operational side of the platform, the Public Authority for Manpower will be responsible for enforcing regulations and ensuring that employers adhere to the new payment standards.
This digital transformation marks a significant shift toward a more secure and efficient financial environment. By moving away from manual processing, the KWPS allows for real-time tracking of wage disbursements, which helps authorities quickly identify and address any non-compliance issues. Furthermore, the system encourages broader financial inclusion by promoting the use of electronic banking services. As the third installment in the nation's broader payment modernization roadmapâfollowing the recent rollout of the Kuwait Automated Clearing House and the Dispute Management Systemâthe KWPS reinforces Kuwaitâs commitment to adopting international best practices in financial digital services.
