Tragic Accident Claims 17 Lives in Northwest Pakistan

Mon, May 25, 2026(90d ago)World

A devastating road accident in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province resulted in the loss of 17 lives on Monday, with another 10 individuals suffering injuries. The tragedy unfolded when a passenger bus, en route from Swat to Peshawar, experienced a mechanical failure and pulled over to the side of the road. As passengers exited the vehicle to wait nearby, a speeding van lost control and collided violently with both the stationary bus and the group of travelers.

Local rescue officials have confirmed that at least three of the injured survivors remain in critical condition. Many of those involved in the crash were heading home to celebrate the upcoming Eid festival, making the incident particularly heartbreaking. Road safety remains a significant concern in the region, with accidents frequently attributed to a combination of reckless driving, inadequate infrastructure, and the inconsistent enforcement of traffic regulations.
