Trillanes Alleges Massive Foreign Funding Linked to Duterte Family
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has leveled serious accusations against Vice President Sara Duterte, claiming he has uncovered evidence of unexplained wealth and questionable financial ties to Chinese entities. During a public briefing, Trillanes alleged that between 2021 and 2024, Chinese interests funneled over P319 million into a company owned by Duterte’s husband, Manases Carpio. He further asserted that a foundation linked to the family received an additional P150 million from China in 2019. Trillanes argued that these transactions, coupled with alleged discrepancies in Duterte's asset declarations and the use of fictitious stakeholders in local government projects, provide sufficient grounds for her impeachment.
The accusations also delve into allegations that the Duterte family utilized shell companies and fake identities to secure lucrative government contracts in Davao City. Trillanes highlighted the case of Timesquare Bee Foods Corporation, claiming that a supposed major stakeholder named Ang Hai Peng does not exist in any official government registry and shares a birthday with a known associate of the Duterte family. While the Vice President’s camp has yet to issue a formal response, impeachment prosecutors have urged for a thorough investigation into these claims, emphasizing that the focus must remain on comparing Trillanes' disclosures against official financial records and Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
