Philippines Launches Major Crackdown on Illegal Online Gaming Operations

Sun, Oct 4, 2026(3h ago)World

In a significant move to curb illicit activities, Philippine authorities recently apprehended 244 foreign workers during a coordinated raid in the southern region of Mindanao. This operation marks the largest bust of the year targeting illegal online gaming centers, known locally as POGOs. Earlier this year, the Philippine government implemented a nationwide ban on these operators, citing their frequent involvement in serious criminal activities, including human trafficking, money laundering, fraud, and even violent crimes like kidnapping and murder.

During the raids, law enforcement seized a substantial amount of technical equipment, including laptops, mobile phones, and numerous SIM cards, which served as the backbone for these illegal operations. While the majority of those detained are Chinese nationals, the group also included individuals from Cambodia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar. Immigration officials have confirmed that they are currently investigating potential human trafficking links, with those found in violation of immigration laws facing imminent deportation as part of the country’s broader efforts to prevent foreign nationals from exploiting the Philippines for criminal enterprises.
