Trump Approves Execution of Fort Hood Shooter via Firing Squad
President Donald Trump has authorized the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist responsible for the 2009 mass shooting at the Fort Hood military base. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended the use of a firing squad, a method the President has officially approved. Once carried out, this will mark the first military execution in the United States since 1961, with the specific timing and location to be determined by the Secretary of the Army.
Hasan, who was inspired by Al-Qaeda ideology, was sentenced to death by a military jury in 2013 after killing 13 people and injuring dozens more during his attack on the Texas base. Throughout his trial, Hasan famously represented himself and declined to mount a defense, leading many to believe he was intentionally seeking the death penalty. The tragedy, which targeted soldiers preparing for overseas deployments, remains one of the most significant domestic terror incidents in modern U.S. military history.
