Honoring Palestinian Heritage: An Art Exhibit and Protest in Manila
The University of the Philippines-College of Fine Arts is currently hosting a month-long exhibition titled “Palestine: Living Heritage, Enduring Steadfastness.” Opened by Palestinian Ambassador Mounir Anastas and UP President Angelo Jimenez, the showcase features a poignant collection of photographs, traditional embroidery, and devotional objects. By contrasting images of historic West Bank sites with the heartbreaking destruction of landmarks in Gaza, the exhibit serves as a visual record of a culture struggling to preserve its identity and collective memory against the backdrop of ongoing conflict.
Beyond its artistic contributions, the exhibition acts as a powerful act of international solidarity, emphasizing the resilience of the Palestinian people. As the university highlights the necessity of cultural preservation during times of crisis, various activist groups in Manila are taking their support to the streets. Organizations including the Philippine-Palestine Friendship Association have scheduled a protest march toward the US Embassy to mark the anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood, calling for accountability and justice while framing the Palestinian struggle as an inspiration for global movements seeking liberation.
