Oman Conducts Emergency Medical Evacuation Following Tanker Attack Near Musandam
The Royal Oman Air Force recently spearheaded a rapid medical rescue mission after a Panama-flagged commercial vessel, identified as the ON PEACE, was struck near the Musandam Governorate. The attack, which occurred approximately nine nautical miles northeast of Lima, triggered a fire onboard and necessitated an immediate emergency response. Ten injured crew members were airlifted from the scene and transported to Khasab Hospital, where they are currently receiving professional medical care.
This incident is part of a broader trend of escalating maritime instability in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping artery. Reports indicate that at least 12 crew members from a similar vesselâa tanker carrying a majority-Indian crewâwere also injured in a separate recent attack and required similar evacuation assistance from Omani authorities. As tensions continue to rise, with increased friction between Iranian forces and international shipping interests, officials are calling for enhanced protections for seafarers and an immediate cessation of hostilities to safeguard regional trade routes.
