US House Recognizes Heroic Pilot for Thwarting Mid-Air Terror Attack
The US House of Representatives has formally recognized Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his remarkable bravery during a harrowing mid-air emergency aboard Flydubai Flight 1073. While en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30, the co-pilot launched a violent assault on Captain Machchhar using an emergency axe, leading to a terrifying 14,000-foot plunge in just seconds. Despite sustaining significant injuries, Machchhar displayed incredible resolve by fighting back and successfully unlocking the cockpit door, which allowed off-duty pilots to intervene and regain control of the aircraft.
The resolution, spearheaded by Representatives Josh Gottheimer, Don Bacon, and Michael McCaul, officially condemned the incident as a terrorist act against international aviation. Thanks to the combined efforts of the crew and passengers who helped subdue the attacker, the plane managed a safe emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. As Captain Machchhar continues his recovery, the Indian Embassy in the UAE has confirmed he is showing steady progress and remains under the care of a dedicated medical team, while the international community continues to praise his quick thinking and sacrifice in safeguarding the lives of everyone on board.
