India Rejects Musk’s Claims of Starlink Blockade
The Indian government has officially dismissed allegations made by Elon Musk regarding the supposed obstruction of his Starlink satellite internet services within the country. Musk had previously taken to social media to suggest that unnamed "oligarchs" were actively preventing his company from entering the market to protect their existing monopolies. In response, India’s Press Information Bureau labeled these claims as "baseless and misconceived," emphasizing that the nation operates under a transparent, non-discriminatory regulatory framework for all telecommunications providers.
Government officials further clarified that all entities seeking to provide satellite communication services must adhere to mandatory security assessments designed to protect user data and national interests. According to the Ministry of Communications, three companies—including Starlink—are currently undergoing this standardized process and remain at the same regulatory stage. Once these necessary compliance requirements are fulfilled, all applicants will be eligible to move forward with the spectrum assignment process, ensuring a level playing field for market entry.
