Philippine Airlines Suspends Manila-Riyadh Routes Due to Regional Security Concerns
Philippine Airlines has officially suspended its round-trip flights between Manila and Riyadh scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026. The carrier cited a volatile and "developing situation" in the region, explaining that its operations team is currently evaluating airport safety conditions to determine when flights can safely resume. The airline expressed regret for the disruption, emphasizing that their top priority is the safety of their passengers and crew, and promised to provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
This decision comes in the wake of a reported attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which Saudi aviation authorities confirmed resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The Houthi movement, backed by Iran, has claimed responsibility for the assault, which involved ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones aimed at multiple regional airports. Despite these tensions, Philippine Airlines has clarified that its other regional routes remain secure; Josh Vasquez, the airline's regional head for EMEA & ISC, confirmed that flights between Dubai and Manila are unaffected and continue to operate on their regular schedules.
