France Stands with Saudi Arabia Following Deadly Airport Attack
The French government has issued a sharp condemnation of the recent "heinous attack" targeting Riyadh's international airport, which was carried out by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The assault, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in a tragic loss of life, with 12 fatalities reported and hundreds of individuals injured, including at least one French national. In response, France has declared its "total solidarity" with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the need for an immediate cessation of these hostile actions.
In a show of ongoing support, France reiterated its commitment to assisting Saudi Arabia in protecting its sovereign territory and vital infrastructure. This reinforcement follows a late September announcement by President Emmanuel Macron, who confirmed the deployment of French troops, radar technology, and defensive systems to the region to counter frequent drone and missile strikes. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has clarified that this military assistance remains strictly defensive in nature, underscoring that Paris is not a participant in the broader conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi forces.
