Over 100 Foreign Hikers Stranded Following Nepal Flash Floods
More than 100 international trekkers find themselves stuck in central Nepal after severe flooding decimated vital hiking paths and bridges over the weekend. The crisis unfolded when a landslide in the Gorkha district blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, triggering sudden downstream surges. While local authorities have already managed to rescue nearly 100 peopleâincluding nine foreignersâthe destruction of infrastructure has left many hikers unable to navigate their return routes safely.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been confirmed, though five local villagers remain missing as the floodwaters, thick with mud and debris, damaged homes and hydroelectric facilities. Officials from the Manaslu Conservation Area Project report that while the stranded tourists are currently safe in local tea houses and restaurants, they are effectively cut off due to the ruined trails. Experts suggest the flooding was likely caused by a temporary blockage giving way, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of mountain communities to unpredictable natural hazards in the region.
