Actor Imran Khan Ordered to Leave India Following Mumbai Protest Detention
Actor Imran Khan has been issued a "Leave India Notice" by Mumbai authorities, mandating his departure from the country by October 28. The former Bollywood star, who holds an American passport, was detained by police after participating in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. The demonstration, which saw a heavy security response, was organized to call for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over controversial voter roll revisions that critics argue could disenfranchise millions of citizens.
Prior to his detention, Khan emphasized that he was attending the event as a concerned local resident rather than a political representative, questioning the restrictions placed on the movement and voices of the people. Following his detainment, footage of the incident spread rapidly across social media, with one of his posts garnering over two million likes. While the Election Commission of India has firmly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the voter list updates are simply a measure to remove ineligible individuals, the movement continues to gain momentum as opposition groups demand transparency in the electoral process.
