Saudi Arabia Executes Two Nationals Over Makkah Mosque Incident

Thu, Oct 15, 2026(1h ago)World

The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, were executed in the Makkah region. The individuals were taken into custody following an act of indecency committed within a mosque in Makkah. Following a thorough investigation, the case was brought before a competent court, which found the defendants guilty of violating the sanctity of a sacred space.

The court sentenced both individuals to death under the principle of ta’zir—a discretionary punishment rooted in Islamic law. After the ruling was upheld by higher authorities and sanctioned by a royal order, the execution was carried out on October 14, 2026. In its official statement, the Saudi government emphasized its firm commitment to upholding justice and maintaining the holiness of religious sites, warning that any future violations of this nature would be met with similar severe legal consequences.
