Oman Issues Urgent Warning After Ship Sinks Off Musandam Coast

Sat, Oct 17, 2026(1h ago)World

Following the sinking of the vessel GFS PRIDE on October 14, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre has issued an urgent advisory for fishermen and boaters in the Musandam Governorate. Several shipping containers have been swept into the sea, and authorities are warning that these objects may carry hazardous materials. Officials are strictly advising the public to maintain a wide distance and avoid any attempt to touch, open, or interact with the floating debris to ensure their personal safety and prevent accidental exposure to dangerous substances.

The Maritime Security Centre is asking anyone who identifies these containers to refrain from approaching them and to report their locations immediately to the relevant authorities. Sightings can be communicated to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology at 7211134, the Coast Guard at 24714888, or the Maritime Security Centre at 24303999 or 1999. Emergency services can also be reached by dialing 9999. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and follow all official safety instructions until the area is officially cleared and the situation is brought under control.
