Saudi-led Coalition Intercepts Renewed Houthi Aerial Attacks
The Saudi-led coalition announced on Friday that its forces successfully intercepted a series of drones and missiles aimed at Riyadh and various other locations across the kingdom. According to coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki, the defense systems destroyed three drones and two cruise missiles over the Red Sea, alongside a ballistic missile intercepted near the major oil pipeline terminus in Yanbu. These strikes are part of an intensifying pattern of aggression from the Iran-backed Houthi group, which has increasingly targeted Saudi oil infrastructure and international airports, raising significant concerns for global energy stability as the regional conflict persists.
The escalation comes in the wake of a Houthi offensive that has seized strategic territory along the Red Sea, prompting strong condemnation from the UN Security Council for both the aerial threats to Saudi Arabia and the endangerment of international shipping lanes. Tensions have further spiked following a deadly missile strike on the presidential palace in Aden, where Yemeni government officials were targeted. Saudi authorities continue to blame Tehran for providing the military support and training necessary for these attacks, accusing Iran of violating UN resolutions and actively destabilizing the region by fueling the ongoing Houthi military campaign.
