Egypt Pledges Military Support to Defend Saudi Security
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has signaled his readiness to protect Saudi Arabia, requesting that the country’s parliament convene for an emergency session to authorize potential military intervention. During a recent address at the Egyptian Military Academy, Sisi emphasized that Cairo remains firmly committed to the safety of its Gulf allies, declaring it unacceptable to remain idle should Saudi stability be compromised. He highlighted that this partnership is a direct response to the ongoing guidance from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reinforcing the historic bonds between the two nations.
While the prospect of deploying troops has been raised, Sisi was careful to clarify that any Egyptian military involvement would be strictly limited to defensive maneuvers rather than offensive operations. He stressed that Egypt is not seeking to involve itself in broader regional hostilities, but rather aims to return the support that Gulf nations—particularly Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait—offered Egypt during its own period of crisis in 2013. This move comes as Saudi Arabia faces escalating threats from Houthi strikes, which have increasingly targeted vital infrastructure and civilian centers, prompting Sisi to seek a formal mandate to safeguard his regional partners should a formal request for aid be issued.
