Philippines Steps Up Repatriation Efforts for Workers in Saudi Arabia
The Philippine government has ramped up its efforts to bring home overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) following the recent security concerns in Saudi Arabia. Since Monday, 99 Filipinos have successfully returned to Manila, with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) coordinating logistics to ensure a safe transition. These returnees are being supported by government-funded assistance, which covers transportation, emergency lodging, and travel expenses for those heading back to their home provinces. The government has already scheduled a series of additional flights through October 26 to evacuate hundreds more citizens via alternative departure points in Dammam and Al Qassim.
In tandem with the repatriation process, authorities provided a positive update on the three Filipinos critically injured during the October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport. Medical reports indicate that the patients are showing significant signs of recovery, with most being moved out of the intensive care unit. To show the government’s commitment to their welfare, DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac is set to lead a delegation to Saudi Arabia. This mission aims to personally check on the injured workers, consult with local Filipino community leaders, and reaffirm the administration's dedication to protecting the safety and interests of all Filipino migrants in the region.
