Bridging the AI Skills Gap in the GCC
A recent study by Al-Futtaim reveals a significant paradox in the GCC workplace: while 82% of professionals are already integrating artificial intelligence into their weekly routines to boost productivity and reclaim lost hours, only 39% feel truly confident in their abilities. Even though 73% of these users report tangible improvements in their outputâwith over a third saving at least four hours every weekâthe lack of formal training and lingering concerns over data security are holding many employees back from reaching their full potential.
Industry leaders at a recent Dubai summit emphasized that simply providing access to AI tools is insufficient for meaningful transformation. The data shows that employees who receive structured, practical training are 2.5 times more confident and twice as efficient, yet only 20% of workers report receiving substantial guidance. To successfully navigate this transition, GCC businesses must shift their focus toward fostering a culture of experimentation, implementing robust data governance, and ensuring that leadership actively models the technology. Ultimately, the future of work in the region depends on moving beyond surface-level adoption to create workflows that empower staff with both the skills and the trust needed to thrive alongside AI.
