French Justice Minister Announces Over 200 Sentences Following Recent Riots
In a move to restore order following the recent wave of unrest, French authorities have confirmed that 217 individuals have been handed prison sentences through expedited legal proceedings. Justice Minister Ăric Dupond-Moretti praised the judiciary's swift and decisive actions, emphasizing that the legal system is taking an "extremely firm" stance against those responsible for the violence that shook the nation over the weekend.
According to official figures shared outside the Fleury-Mérogis prison near Paris, police have detained approximately 2,700 people since the chaos began on Saturday. With over 1,000 cases already processed by the courts, the Minister noted that the number of incarcerated offenders is expected to climb even higher as legal investigations continue to move forward at an accelerated pace.
