Fire at Historical 'Eagle’s Nest' Retreat Leads to Police Investigation
Authorities in Bavaria have launched an investigation after a massive blaze erupted at the Kehlsteinhaus, a historic mountain retreat famously known as the "Eagle's Nest." The building, which served as a guest house for high-ranking Nazi officials during the 1930s, was found completely engulfed in flames late Friday night. Roughly 200 emergency responders were dispatched to the remote Alpine site, located 1,834 meters above sea level, to battle the inferno.
Police confirmed that a suspect was detained near the property shortly after the fire was reported. While investigators are currently working to determine if the individual had a direct role in starting the blaze, no motive has been identified yet. The Kehlsteinhaus, which is owned by the state of Bavaria and preserved as a historical monument, is separate from Hitler’s nearby Berghof residence. Officials noted that the remote, high-altitude location of the site posed significant challenges for firefighting crews working to bring the situation under control.
