Dramatic Rescue: 20-Year-Old Caver Saved from 120-Metre Deep Italian Cave
A daring overnight rescue operation successfully extracted a 20-year-old man who had become trapped 120 metres underground in northern Italy. The caver, an Italian national, was exploring the Grotta dei Cinghiali Volanti in the Cuneo province when his leg became pinned beneath a heavy boulder. The emergency response was massive, requiring a coordinated effort from 53 specialized rescuers who traveled from across the country to assist in the difficult subterranean mission.
Once reach by the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service, the man received initial medical attention at a makeshift station set up within the cave walls. Remarkably, after being moved to the surface, medical personnel determined that his injuries were not severe enough to necessitate a stretcher evacuation. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital by ambulance, marking a successful conclusion to an intense ordeal in one of Italy’s most prominent caving regions.
