The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced an extension of the UAE visa amnesty program by two months, now concluding on December 31, 2024. Initially launched on September 1, this initiative aimed to assist residents in regularizing their visa status, allowing them to avoid hefty fines associated with overstaying. The decision to extend the program aligns with the UAE’s celebration of its 53rd Union Day and reflects the nation’s commitment to humanitarian values. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, the director general of ICP, emphasized that this extension is a response to the requests from individuals seeking to rectify their residency status, whether by departing the country or securing employment contracts.
The amnesty program has seen a significant uptick in applications as the original deadline approached. Al Khaili highlighted that this extension serves as a final opportunity for violators to resolve their status without incurring fines or facing re-entry bans. He noted that these lenient measures underscore the initiative’s humanitarian aspect and demonstrate ICP’s dedication to helping residents overcome challenges and secure their rights while protecting their families.
While many have taken advantage of this opportunity, Al Khaili warned that fines will be reinstated for those who continue to violate residency regulations after the extension period. He also indicated that ICP will ramp up inspection efforts targeting violators, with plans for deportations and inclusion on the no-entry list for persistent offenders. This marks the fourth amnesty program introduced by the UAE government since 2007, following a similar initiative in 2018 that also saw an extension to accommodate more residents in need of assistance.
Residents wishing to regularize their status can apply at any ICP center across the UAE, through approved typing centers, or via online channels. This program not only provides a pathway for legal compliance but also embodies the UAE’s ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all its residents.
