Abu Dhabi has recently implemented strict regulations to tackle the issue of abandoned vehicles in public areas. The Department of Municipalities and Transport has outlined penalties for motorists who leave their vehicles in a manner that distorts the general appearance of public spaces. These penalties are structured in three tiers based on the frequency of the violation. For the first offense, motorists face a fine of Dh500. This increases to Dh1,000 for a second violation and Dh2,000 for a third. Additionally, under Law No. 2 of 2012, leaving a vehicle’s body or frame in public places can incur a Dh1,000 fine for the first offense, Dh2,000 for the second, and Dh4,000 for the third. These measures aim to maintain the aesthetic appeal and safety of public spaces in Abu Dhabi.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) also plays a crucial role in managing parking and public transport, ensuring that vehicles are not left unattended for extended periods. In cases where vehicles are abandoned, the ITC may take legal action, including selling the vehicles at auction if they are not claimed. This approach underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to preserving its public appearance and ensuring compliance with municipal regulations.
In line with these efforts, other UAE emirates like Ajman have also introduced laws to address abandoned vehicles. Ajman’s law stipulates that vehicles left unattended for more than seven days are considered abandoned and can be auctioned after 30 days if not claimed. This demonstrates a broader UAE initiative to manage public spaces effectively and maintain environmental and aesthetic standards.
Abu Dhabi’s regulations highlight the importance of community responsibility in maintaining public spaces.
