Ajman Government Employees Get Friday Remote Work

The Ajman government has implemented a groundbreaking remote work policy for its employees during the holy month of Ramadan. This innovative approach allows all government staff to work from home on Fridays, showcasing the emirate’s commitment to embracing flexible work arrangements. The new schedule, as outlined by the Department of Human Resources of the Ajman Government, sets working hours from 9am to 2.30pm Monday through Thursday, with a shorter Friday shift from 9am to 12pm. This initiative, spearheaded by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council, aligns perfectly with the UAE’s “Year of Community” vision.

Flexibility is a key component of this policy, allowing government entities to tailor the remote work implementation to their specific needs while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery. For departments operating on shifts, the maximum duration is capped at five and a half hours per day, with timings determined by operational requirements. The circular also empowers Director-Generals to introduce flexible work systems, provided employees fulfill their required hours and maintain efficient staffing in customer-facing units. This progressive approach extends beyond Ajman, with Dubai and Sharjah also announcing similar measures for their public sector employees during Ramadan. The private sector across the UAE will see a two-hour reduction in daily working hours, while public schools will transition to distance learning on Fridays. These coordinated efforts demonstrate the UAE’s commitment to fostering a supportive work environment during the holy month while maintaining productivity and service quality.
