Abu Dhabi Cracks Down on Public Animal Slaughtering Practices

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has announced that its slaughterhouses will remain operational throughout the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, ensuring a seamless service to meet the increased demand for sacrificial animals. To enhance service quality, improvements have been made across facilities such as the automated slaughterhouse at Abu Dhabi Port, Bani Yas Slaughterhouse, Al Shahama Slaughterhouse, and Al Wathba Slaughterhouse. These efforts include deploying specialized butchers and veterinary teams to ensure that all meat meets high-quality and safety standards.

The Municipality has emphasized the importance of using licensed slaughterhouses, warning against slaughtering animals in homes, streets, or public facilities, which could result in financial penalties and confiscation of animals. Mobile patrols are deployed to monitor and enforce these regulations, reflecting the Municipality’s commitment to community health and safety. The slaughterhouses will operate from 6 am to 5 pm throughout the week, with a break on Fridays from 11:30 am to 2 pm to accommodate prayer times.

This year, Abu Dhabi anticipates processing over 80,000 animals, including sheep, goats, cows, and camels. The Automated Slaughterhouse is expected to handle 20,000 animals, while Baniyas Slaughterhouse will process 30,000, Al Shahamah Slaughterhouse 25,000, and Al Wathbah Slaughterhouse 5,000. To meet this demand, the Municipality has increased its workforce with specialized butchers and dedicated veterinary teams for comprehensive animal inspections before and after slaughter.

The Municipality’s measures are designed to maintain high-quality meat and prevent diseases, ensuring a clean and healthy environment for both consumers and workers. By encouraging the use of designated slaughterhouses, the Municipality aims to protect consumers’ rights and uphold public health standards. Additionally, the Municipality has warned against using illegal services from unlicensed butchers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to health guidelines and using licensed facilities.

The increased capacity and extended hours of the slaughterhouses are part of a broader strategy to improve services during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr. This includes maintaining stringent health and safety measures, such as regular inspections and proper waste disposal, to minimize environmental impact. By focusing on these improvements, Abu Dhabi City Municipality demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents while maintaining international health standards.

The Municipality’s efforts to enhance service quality and ensure public safety are crucial during periods of high demand. By providing efficient and reliable services, Abu Dhabi aims to meet the community’s needs effectively, ensuring that all residents have access to safe and high-quality meat products throughout the holy month.

Overall, the Municipality’s proactive approach to managing slaughterhouse operations during Ramadan reflects its dedication to maintaining public health and safety, while also supporting the community’s religious practices.
