Dubai Completes Al Khail Road: Five Bridges Enhance Traffic Flow

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the Al Khail Road Development Project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s road infrastructure. This extensive project involved the construction of five new bridges spanning 3,300 meters and the widening of roads over a distance of 6,820 meters across seven key areas, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The improvements are designed to serve approximately 1.5 million residents, significantly reducing travel times by 30%. Enhanced capacity at existing intersections and bridges now allows for the handling of up to 19,600 vehicles per hour. This upgrade is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly at critical interchanges along Al Khail Road, which is a vital arterial route connecting Business Bay Crossing to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Key features of the project include a 700-meter bridge in Zabeel with a capacity for 4,800 vehicles per hour and a two-lane bridge in Meydan measuring 610 meters. Additionally, a two-lane bridge in Al Quoz 1 spans 650 meters while another two-lane bridge in Ghadeer Al Tair measures 640 meters. The Jumeirah Village Circle also benefits from a newly constructed 700-meter bridge.

RTA adopted an innovative construction strategy that reduced the project timeline from 18 months to just nine months by employing multiple contractors simultaneously. The workforce included around 5,000 engineers and laborers who logged over six million work hours using 650 machines. This strategic development not only enhances traffic flow but also contributes to overall road safety in Dubai’s bustling urban environment.
