Dubai Police Detain Street Vendors for Unlicensed Food Sales

Dubai Police recently apprehended ten illegal street vendors who were selling food products in public areas without proper licenses or adherence to health standards. This crackdown was part of the Ramadan campaign aimed at maintaining public safety and security. The vendors posed potential health risks to the community by operating under unhygienic conditions, often near labor accommodation areas.

The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by Dubai Police to uphold safety regulations and prevent the creation of unregulated makeshift markets in public spaces. Colonel Ahmad Al Adeedi, Deputy Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department, emphasized that these operations are collaborative efforts with partner authorities to ensure the city’s appeal is not tarnished by such activities.

Colonel Al Adeedi warned that unauthorized vendors often attract customers by offering food under unhygienic conditions. He urged the public to avoid purchasing goods from unlicensed vendors and instead rely on authorized businesses to ensure food quality and safety. Major Talib Al Amiri, Head of the Street Vendors Control Section, also emphasized the serious health risks associated with consuming food from unregulated vendors, citing potential foodborne illnesses due to unsafe storage and display conditions.

Dubai Police will continue intensified patrols to identify and apprehend violators. Residents are encouraged to report illegal street vending activities through the 901 call center or the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police app. This proactive approach aims to protect public health and maintain Dubai’s reputation for safety and cleanliness.

The campaign reflects Dubai’s commitment to maintaining high standards of public health and safety, especially during significant events like Ramadan. By targeting illegal vendors, authorities aim to ensure that all food products sold in public areas meet stringent health and safety standards.
