Dubai Police have successfully apprehended two individuals who impersonated Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers, stealing a substantial amount of Dh10 million from a trading company located in Naif. The suspects, identified as Ahmed S.M. and Yousif A.A., both Asian nationals, entered the company’s premises by claiming to be police officers. They displayed forged CID identification cards and confronted the staff, restraining employees and looting the money from a safe in the general manager’s office.
The suspects tied up five employees, confiscated their mobile phones, and detained them in a separate office before making off with the cash. However, the employees managed to free themselves and immediately alerted Dubai Police. Officers from Naif Police Station, CID, crime scene investigation, and patrol units swiftly responded to the scene, collecting fingerprints, CCTV footage, and witness statements. This led to an extensive nationwide search to track down the culprits before they could transfer the stolen amount or flee the country.
Following an intensive manhunt, the suspects were located in a northern emirate. In coordination with local police, Dubai authorities apprehended them and recovered the stolen money. During interrogation, the men confessed to planning the heist with a company insider who had tipped them off about the cash stored in the safe. The employee allegedly assured them that if they carried out the robbery, the manager would not report it, claiming the company was involved in money laundering. Police later arrested the employee, and the case has been referred to Dubai Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Impersonating law enforcement is a serious offense in the UAE, with severe penalties for those found guilty. The public is advised to remain vigilant and verify the identities of individuals claiming to be police officers. Dubai Police continues to work diligently to combat such crimes and protect the community.
The success of this operation highlights the efficiency and coordination between different law enforcement units in Dubai. Efforts are underway to restore the stolen amount to the company, ensuring justice is served and the victims are compensated.
