Fujairah Police Crack Down on Sudden Lane Swerving During Ramadan

Fujairah Police have launched a targeted crackdown on sudden swerving during Ramadan, a leading cause of road accidents in the UAE. This dangerous driving behavior is often linked to driver inattentiveness, distractions, or failure to signal, significantly increasing the likelihood of accidents, especially during peak traffic hours. To deter such reckless driving, violators face a Dh1,000 fine and four black points on their licenses under Article 29 of the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law. While sudden swerving does not result in vehicle impoundment in Fujairah, repeated offenses could lead to stricter penalties.

The campaign is particularly crucial during Ramadan, when driver fatigue, dehydration, and rushed behavior contribute to a rise in road accidents. Incidents peak in the hours leading up to iftar, as many motorists speed to reach home, increasing the risks of sudden lane changes and loss of vehicle control. Fujairah Police emphasize that adhering to traffic rules, especially avoiding sudden swerving, can save lives. They urge drivers to follow essential precautions such as using turn signals, checking mirrors and blind spots, maintaining a safe following distance, staying focused, and reducing speed during peak Ramadan traffic hours.

According to the Ministry of Interior, a total of 384 road deaths were recorded across the UAE last year, up by 32 cases compared to the previous year. These fatalities were largely caused by distracted driving, tailgating, sudden deviation, negligence, and lack of lane discipline. The UAE’s zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations underscores that compliance with road safety laws is both a legal obligation and a moral duty, especially during Ramadan.

Fujairah Police will continue their intensified monitoring throughout Ramadan to ensure that reckless drivers are held accountable and all road users remain safe. The goal is to promote responsible driving habits and prevent accidents before they happen. By emphasizing the importance of patience and caution on the roads, the police aim to reduce the number of traffic violations and ensure that motorists arrive safely rather than quickly.

The UAE’s road safety initiatives highlight the need for drivers to be vigilant and responsible, particularly during periods of increased traffic congestion. By adhering to traffic laws and practicing safe driving techniques, motorists can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and contribute to a safer road environment for everyone.
