Global Outage Hits Social Media Platform X, Users React

On Monday, March 10, numerous residents in the UAE experienced difficulties accessing social media platform X, with many users reporting issues around 2 pm. The disruption became apparent at 1:54 pm when over 400 outage reports were logged on Downdetector.ae. However, by 2:39 pm, the number of reports significantly decreased to just 29, and by 3:09 pm, the issue seemed to have subsided further, with only three reports.

Dubai residents shared their frustration with the outage. Rachel attempted to repost a funny thread but was unsuccessful. She tried quoting it instead, but still faced issues. Another resident, Lina, was unable to load the platform to post her travel updates.

The problem resurfaced later in the afternoon. By 5:39 pm, reports began climbing again, reaching 90. By 6 pm, the situation worsened as users were unable to load the platform entirely. This was not an isolated incident; earlier in the day, thousands of users in the US and UK also reported issues with the platform. According to Downdetector, there were over 21,000 incidents in the US and more than 10,800 in the UK.

Despite the widespread reports, X has yet to issue an official statement regarding the outage or its cause. The actual number of affected users may vary, as Downdetector’s numbers are based on user-submitted reports. The repeated disruptions highlight the need for clear communication from social media platforms during such incidents.

The UAE’s experience with platform X’s outage reflects a broader trend of social media disruptions affecting users globally. As social media plays an increasingly critical role in daily life, the reliability and transparency of these platforms become more important.
