The Dubai Police have implemented a significant amendment to traffic regulations, allowing for the impoundment of vehicles for up to 30 days for serious offences. This new measure targets reckless driving behaviors such as using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden lane changes that endanger safety. These actions not only incur fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000 but also result in the vehicle being confiscated for a month, marking a stricter approach to road safety in Dubai.
The Official Gazette reveals that distracted driving is defined as any activity that diverts attention from the road, including phone use. Additionally, failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead or deviating dangerously can lead to the same 30-day impoundment. Heavy vehicles are also subject to these rules, particularly regarding lane discipline.
This is not the first instance of heightened penalties for traffic violations in Dubai. Last year, authorities introduced a hefty Dh50,000 fee for retrieving vehicles seized due to severe infractions. The recent changes aim to further discourage dangerous driving practices and promote safer roads.
Moreover, certain violations will now incur a 14-day impoundment period. These include entering a roadway without ensuring it is clear and reversing unsafely. The regulations reflect Dubai’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety and reducing road accidents through stringent enforcement of traffic laws.
As Dubai continues to evolve its traffic regulations, motorists are urged to stay informed about these changes and adhere strictly to the rules to avoid severe penalties. The initiative underscores the importance of responsible driving and the need for all road users to prioritize safety above all.
