Ramadan Brings 50% Off Fresh UAE Produce

As Ramadan approaches, the United Arab Emirates transforms into a vibrant hub of cultural and spiritual activities. One of the highlights of this season is the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ Ramadan Market, launched by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) in collaboration with local entities. This market, located at the Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, offers a wide range of UAE-made food products, including locally grown vegetables, fruits, dates, confectioneries, and home-bred meat, all available at discounts of up to 50%.

The market serves as a platform for local manufacturers to connect directly with consumers, fostering greater trust in UAE-made products while supporting sustainable industrial growth. It aligns with the UAE’s goal of increasing self-reliance in food production and enhancing economic diversification. The initiative also supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing them with direct access to consumers, thereby expanding their market reach.

Shoppers can explore a variety of discounted goods, from traditional Ramadan essentials to innovative food products made by UAE-based companies. For instance, Hany M Haneef, owner of Flour Master, showcased a unique range of flavored tortillas, catering to the evolving tastes of consumers. Currently, around 75% of tortillas in the UAE are imported, but local manufacturers see significant potential for growth, with plans to export UAE-made tortillas to neighboring countries in the future.

The market highlights the UAE’s efforts in farming and food security, showcasing a range of high-quality, homegrown produce at competitive prices. By promoting locally sourced products, the UAE aims to reduce its dependency on imports, ensuring food security and promoting sustainability in the region. The Ramadan market could become an annual event, with plans to expand its scope and reach in the coming years.

The initiative reflects the UAE’s broader commitment to supporting local industries and enhancing consumer confidence in UAE-made products. It is part of MoIAT’s efforts during the Year of Community, promoting local consumption and offering competitively priced domestic products. This market not only supports local businesses but also provides consumers with affordable and high-quality products, making it a significant event during the holy month of Ramadan.
