Students opting for remote learning will have access to pre-recorded lessons, while those attending school in person will continue with regular on-site classes.
The decision to implement remote learning on Fridays is partly driven by the challenges posed by fasting and late-night family events during Ramadan. Principals like Lisa Johnson from the American Academy for Girls emphasized that their schools are fully prepared to support students through pre-recorded lessons and activities. This approach ensures that students can access high-quality instruction even if they miss classes due to fasting or family commitments.
Feedback from families has been positive, with many appreciating the flexibility offered by the hybrid model. Schools have also taken steps to enhance the quality of online instruction by training teachers to create engaging lesson videos. For instance, GEMS International School – Al Khail conducted a survey to gauge parental interest in remote learning, with about 17% of students opting for online classes. Overall, this approach aims to provide a balanced learning experience that accommodates the unique needs of students and families during Ramadan.
School leaders emphasize that the asynchronous online learning model is designed to ensure continuity of learning for all students. This includes providing supplementary learning resources and ensuring that staff are available on campus to support students, whether they are learning remotely or in person.
