In Dubai, the “Gift It Forward” initiative by Dubai Holding has brought joy and empowerment to hundreds of students at the National Charity School in Al Garhoud. This unique program allows students from Grades 5 to 12 to select and curate their own gifts, not just for themselves but also for their loved ones, during Ramadan. The initiative is more than just corporate charity; it provides a dignified way for beneficiaries to receive gifts by choosing items based on their personal needs and those of their family members.
Dubai Holding set up mini-bazaars on both the Girls and Boys campuses, offering a wide range of items including clothing, accessories, personal care products, homeware, toys, and school supplies. Students were able to choose up to 10 brand-new items from donations by 25 companies, including prominent brands like Jumeirah, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Azadea Group, L’Occitane en Provence, and Virgin Megastore.
This year marks an expansion of the initiative into schools, targeting single mothers, low-income families, and workers across Dubai. Over 200,000 brand-new items were collected from partners, with more than 500 volunteers helping to benefit over 11,000 Dubai residents. The initiative promotes a culture of volunteering and reinforces Dubai Holding’s commitment to social responsibility.
The response from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to “shop for free” for their loved ones. The initiative has been praised for empowering students and fostering a sense of community and giving during Ramadan.
As Dubai Holding continues to enhance its impact, “Gift It Forward” stands as a testament to the power of collective effort in making a difference in the lives of those in need. By engaging students in the process of giving and receiving, the initiative not only provides essential items but also instills values of generosity and compassion.
