Sharjah Boosts Ramadan Food Safety Inspections

As Ramadan approaches, Sharjah Municipality is intensifying its efforts to ensure food safety across the emirate. The municipality has issued necessary permits for food preparation and sales during daylight hours, emphasizing that all food must be prepared inside designated kitchens. Customers are not allowed to dine within the premises, and food must be served off-site. For displaying food outside outlets before iftar, specific requirements must be met: food must be placed on paved sidewalks, stored in stainless steel containers, and displayed in sealed glass boxes. All food must be covered with food-grade materials and kept at an appropriate temperature.

Sharjah has allocated a team of 380 inspectors to monitor food safety measures and address violations promptly. These inspectors will verify food permits, ensure proper hygiene in food preparation, and prevent unauthorized food sales in public spaces. The municipality’s goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for residents and visitors during Ramadan. Director General Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji emphasized the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards in all food establishments.

In addition to these measures, the public is encouraged to report any violations or concerns through the municipality’s 24/7 contact center. Meanwhile, neighboring Ajman has also taken steps to enhance food safety by conducting sanitary inspections at its municipal slaughterhouses and partnering with the “Zabehaty” app to ensure residents can order fresh meat under official health and safety regulations.
