In the spirit of Ramadan, Abdulnasser Alshaali, the UAE Ambassador to India, hosted a prestigious iftar at the UAE Embassy in New Delhi. This event was attended by senior dignitaries, diplomats, government officials, and business leaders, highlighting the deep cultural ties and longstanding friendship between the UAE and India. Ambassador Alshaali emphasized the values of peace and harmony that underpin the relations between the two nations, as well as the significance of Ramadan as a time of unity and reflection.
The iftar featured a traditional meal showcasing the rich cultural flavors of both countries, allowing guests to engage with Ambassador Alshaali on topics such as political, economic, investment, and cultural partnerships. The bilateral ties between the UAE and India have flourished, supported by frequent high-level visits and initiatives like the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Since the signing of CEPA in February 2022, bilateral trade has nearly doubled, reaching USD 83.7 billion in 2023-24. Over the first ten months of 2024-25, total bilateral trade was USD 80.5 billion.
The CEPA has been instrumental in boosting non-oil trade between the two countries, reaching USD 57.8 billion in 2023-24. This progress aligns with the goal of achieving USD 100 billion in non-oil trade by 2030. The UAE has solidified its position as India’s second-largest export market, third-largest trading partner, and fourth-largest investor. Ambassador Alshaali noted that events like the iftar reinforce shared values of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, fostering cross-cultural collaboration and inter-societal understanding.
The UAE’s commitment to promoting these values through its bilateral relationship with India has been a cornerstone of their flourishing ties. The event served as a platform for guests to discuss various aspects of the partnership, further strengthening the bond between the two nations. As the UAE and India continue to deepen their economic, investment, and trade partnership, they are poised for significant growth and cooperation in the future.
The cultural exchange and economic collaboration between the UAE and India are pivotal in fostering a strong and enduring relationship. With the CEPA playing a crucial role in enhancing trade, both countries are on a path to achieve new milestones in their partnership. The iftar celebration at the UAE Embassy in New Delhi symbolized the unity and friendship that define the relations between the UAE and India.
