UAE Bans Chicken Stock with Illegal Dyes

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) in the UAE has confirmed that the Maragatty chicken broth product, known to contain banned artificial colors, is not available in local markets. This assurance comes as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers. The UAE, heavily reliant on food imports, places a high priority on maintaining stringent food safety standards to safeguard public health.

In line with Federal Law No. 10 of 2015 on Food Safety, the UAE implements strict controls and standards across the entire food chain. This includes a national food accreditation and registration system, which requires all food products to be registered before they can be sold in the market. The National Rapid Alert System for Food also plays a crucial role in managing food risk alerts and banning adulterated products.

The UAE’s commitment to food safety is further underscored by its participation in international agreements such as the World Trade Organization’s Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. This ensures that food safety measures are aligned with global standards, providing consumers with confidence in the safety of both local and imported food products.

As the UAE continues to enhance its food safety regulations, it is set to introduce a unified system for food product oversight. This system aims to standardize control and inspection processes across all emirates, ensuring consistency in food safety practices. Additionally, initiatives like the Nutri-Mark nutritional labeling system will help consumers make healthier choices by classifying food products based on their nutritional value.

The UAE’s proactive approach to food safety not only protects public health but also supports its position as a central hub for food and beverage trade in the region. With events like Gulfood 2025, the UAE continues to showcase its leadership in food innovation and safety, attracting global attention and participation.
