UAE Confirms Ramadan Start on March 1

Ramadan 2025 is set to begin on March 1 in the UAE, following the sighting of the crescent moon. This marks the start of the holy month according to the Hijri calendar, with Shaban ending after 29 days. Muslims worldwide eagerly anticipate this sacred period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. The UAE’s National Council of Meteorology predicts pleasant weather for the initial days of Ramadan, with light rainfall and cloudy skies expected, making fasting more comfortable for residents.

Fasting hours in 2025 will be shorter compared to the previous year, ranging from approximately 13 hours to 13 hours and 13 minutes. This reduction in fasting duration offers some relief to those observing the holy month. To accommodate Ramadan, both private and government sectors in the UAE have adjusted working hours. Private sector employees will work 2.5 hours less, while government employees will see a reduction of 3.5 hours from Monday to Thursday and 1.5 hours on Fridays. Dubai has introduced flexible work options for government employees on Fridays, provided they fulfill their weekly hours.

Educational institutions across the UAE have also modified their schedules, with public schools offering students the choice between online and in-person learning on Fridays. Dubai has extended this option to private schools as well, ensuring students can balance their academic responsibilities with religious observances. In preparation for Ramadan, supermarkets and retail stores have announced significant discounts, allowing shoppers to stock up on essentials and enjoy savings on various products, including electronics and home furnishings.

As the UAE is a multicultural hub, it is crucial for residents and visitors to respect the religious sentiments of those fasting during Ramadan. Basic etiquette guidelines include refraining from aggressive behavior, avoiding loud music or dancing in public, and dressing modestly. These considerations help create a harmonious environment for all during this special time of year, fostering understanding and mutual respect among diverse communities in the UAE.
