UAE Mosques Overflow for Taraweeh Prayers

As the crescent moon was sighted in the UAE, marking the beginning of Ramadan, Muslims across the country prepared for the first Taraweeh prayers. This special night prayer, performed exclusively during Ramadan, brings a sense of unity and peace among worshippers. Many arrived at mosques early, dressed in their finest clothes and having performed ablution, to secure spots for these sacred prayers. The mosques were filled with faithfuls eager to engage in the spiritual practice of Taraweeh, which involves reciting verses from the Quran and standing side by side in prayer.

For many, this moment is more than just the start of Ramadan; it is a time to refresh their faith, reflect on their lives, and strengthen their devotion. Children as young as six joined their parents at the mosques, some carrying prayer mats and others bringing water bottles for the long prayers. Special arrangements were made at some mosques to accommodate the large number of worshippers by setting up extra spaces.

Ahmed Khalil, a Dubai resident, expressed his anticipation for Ramadan and the special prayers. “I had been waiting for this moment. The month of Ramadan is something I always wait for. The reason is that good deeds are multiplied by 70 times,” said Khalil. He added that Taraweeh prayers bring a sense of unity and peace, and it’s a time to seek blessings and strengthen one’s connection with the Almighty.

Similarly, Zohaib Khurshid, a worshipper at a mosque in Sharjah, prayed for global harmony during the sacred month. “As we begin Ramadan, I pray for peace to prevail across the world. So many innocent lives are affected by wars and conflicts. I sincerely hope this Ramadan brings an end to suffering and that humanity finds unity and compassion,” said Khurshid.

Fahad Zaboor, an engineer and resident of Al Nahda in Sharjah, attended the Isha prayer followed by Taraweeh prayers with his nephew. “The atmosphere in the mosque tonight was truly uplifting. From the moment I stepped inside, I could feel it,” said Zaboor. He added that Ramadan is a time for reflection and spiritual growth, and starting the month with Taraweeh prayers fills his heart with peace and gratitude.

Ramadan in the UAE is not just a time of fasting but also a period of community bonding, with many participating in charity initiatives and acts of kindness. The month is marked by special Iftar and Suhoor gatherings, and mosques see increased attendance for nightly Taraweeh prayers. As the holy month progresses, residents can expect shorter working hours and a unique atmosphere filled with Ramadan tents and special events.

Ramadan is a month of giving, with communities coming together to support those in need. Whether it’s donating meals or contributing to local causes, the spirit of generosity is at the heart of this month. Throughout the UAE, restaurants and hotels offer curated Iftar buffets and Suhoors, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

In summary, the start of Ramadan in the UAE is a significant event, marked by Taraweeh prayers that bring people together in a shared moment of devotion and peace. As the month unfolds, it will be a time of spiritual growth, community bonding, and acts of kindness.
