UAE Offers Condolences to Argentina After Devastating Floods

The United Arab Emirates has expressed its solidarity with Argentina following severe flooding in southwestern Argentina. Heavy rains have resulted in significant loss of life and extensive damage in the coastal city of Bahia Blanca. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement offering sincere condolences to the Argentine government, people, and families of the victims, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

The flooding, which began on a Friday morning, brought more than 400 millimeters of rain in just eight hours—nearly equivalent to Bahia Blanca’s average annual rainfall. This deluge triggered severe flooding, submerging entire neighborhoods and leaving parts of the city without electricity. At least 13 people have died, and two young girls are missing, feared to have been swept away by floodwaters.

Argentina’s National Security Minister Patricia Bullrich described Bahia Blanca as “destroyed,” highlighting the severity of the situation. Authorities fear that the death toll could rise further as more casualties are possible. The city, located 600 kilometers southwest of Buenos Aires, has faced previous weather-related disasters, including a 2023 storm that also claimed 13 lives and caused widespread damage.

Emergency crews have been working to assess the full extent of the devastation. Initially, over 1,300 people were evacuated, but this number decreased to 850 by March 8. The UAE’s expression of solidarity underscores the international concern for the affected communities in Argentina.

As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains vigilant, offering support and condolences to those affected by this natural disaster.
