Over half of the UAE residents, a significant 52%, reported donating money to charity in 2024, surpassing the global average of 33%. This trend is particularly pronounced during Ramadan, known as a month of giving, when charity groups intensify their fundraising efforts for humanitarian projects both domestically and internationally. Residents are encouraged to donate through registered charity groups to ensure funds are utilized effectively.
In a recent initiative, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the Fathers’ Endowment campaign, which allows individuals to donate in honor of their fathers, promoting values of compassion and solidarity. This initiative further solidifies the UAE’s position as a leader in charitable and humanitarian work.
Additionally, Gallup data revealed that 60% of UAE residents helped strangers in the past year, exceeding the global average. However, this figure is lower compared to previous years. The UAE’s diverse population, with over 200 nationalities and eight million expat residents, contributes to a cohesive and peaceful environment that fosters charitable activities.
In terms of volunteering, 37% of UAE residents contributed their time to organizations, surpassing the global average of 26%. Despite a recent decline in charitable giving globally, the UAE continues to demonstrate a strong culture of philanthropy, reflecting a long-term trend of increased generosity worldwide.
The UAE’s commitment to charity is also evident in its public spending on the charitable sector, which reached significant levels in recent years. Such initiatives underscore the UAE’s role as a hub for humanitarian efforts and reinforce its tradition of giving.
