UAE Residents Prioritize Safety with Defensive Driving Courses

In the UAE, there is a growing interest in automotive safety education, with nearly half of the residents expressing a desire to learn defensive driving techniques. This trend is particularly prevalent among GenZ, highlighting a shift towards prioritizing safety on the roads. A recent survey conducted by YouGov in collaboration with SEDRA Foundation revealed that 80% of car buyers in the Middle East region prioritize vehicle safety and accessibility when purchasing a vehicle. Half of the respondents also expressed a desire for more accessibility features in new vehicles.

The importance of safety is further emphasized by the fact that 89% of respondents consider it the most crucial factor when choosing a vehicle, followed by affordability and aesthetics. This focus on safety is driven by the increasing number of vehicles on the road, with Dubai experiencing a 10% rise in registered vehicles over the past two years. Defensive driving skills are seen as essential in navigating these conditions, as they help drivers anticipate and react to potential hazards, reducing the risk of accidents.

Jad Azar, a Lebanese expat, encapsulates this sentiment by stating his desire to learn defensive driving not just for personal safety but to protect his family and others on the road. Similarly, Sameer Siddiqui, an Indian expat in Dubai, notes the worsening traffic conditions and the need for techniques that help drivers anticipate and respond effectively to road hazards.

The collaboration between General Motors and SEDRA Foundation aims to make vehicles more accessible and inclusive, reflecting the broader trend towards prioritizing safety and accessibility in the automotive sector. This includes incorporating features like power-adjustable seats and blind-spot monitoring, which are gaining significant attention among consumers.

As the UAE continues to enhance its road network and implement projects to ensure smooth traffic flow, the emphasis on safety education and accessible vehicles underscores the evolving priorities of car buyers in the region.
